In view of the scorching heat in the state, the Punjab government has declared summer vacation in all schools from May 14. For the past several days, the maximum temperature in some of its neighboring states including Punjab and Haryana has remained a few degrees above normal.
In a tweet in Punjabi, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that considering the sudden scorching heat and suggestions from thousands of parents and teachers, it has been decided to declare summer vacation in all schools of Punjab from May 14.
On Friday, Bathinda recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius and Patiala recorded a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature was recorded in Amritsar at 42.3 degrees Celsius, in Ludhiana at 43.2 degrees Celsius and in Jalandhar at 42.7 degrees Celsius.
