Putin urges Russian women to have more children and get rewards

New Delhi: In an attempt to resettle the country, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a reward of 1.3 million to women who give birth to 10 children on 15 August. Putin has restored the title of “Mother Heroine”, which was established by Joseph Stalin in 1944 after the country’s significant losses in World War II.

Russia has been seeing a decline in the birth rate for some years, with figures dropping to 400,000, pulling the number up to 145.1 million. In view of this, Putin is encouraging Russian women to give birth to new ones so that the country can be resettled.

This honorific title was conferred on over 400,000 citizens, but was abolished with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Putin referred to the prize as requiring “cardinal” steps to address the country’s acute demographic shortage.

Mothers in Russia, when their 10th child turns a year old, receive a monetary reward of 1 million rubles (approximately Rs 13 lakh) and the other nine live until they are killed in terrorism or armed conflict. Go. The Russian flag “Mother Heroine” will be featured on the gold medals awarded to the winners. According to The Moscow Times, the honor is on par with other state orders such as Hero of Labor and Hero of Russia in terms of importance.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to nearly doubling the pace of decline since 2021 and nearly tripling from the previous year.
