Two-time Olympic medalist badminton star PV Sindhu and Tokyo silver-winning weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu were among five nominees for the BBC Indian Sportswoman (ISWOTY) of the year award announced here on Tuesday.

Besides Sindhu and Mirabai, star golfer Aditi Ashok, Tokyo Paralympic multiple medalist Avani Lekhara in shooting, Tokyo bronze-winning boxer Lovlina Borgohain were the other three nominees, selected by an eminent jury of sports journalists, experts and sports writers. .

“Success does not come easily, it is not just a few months of hard work, but years of hard work. Every day is a process, that’s how you come up to a certain level,” Sindhu, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics five years ago in Rio de Janeiro to go with her silver, said in a release.

Online voting for the prize will be open till February 28 and the winner will be revealed at a ceremony here on March 28.

Aditi Ashok, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, said: “I am grateful and grateful because it was a good year for me, and I put in some great performances. I am glad that golf is becoming more popular in India.”

The awards ceremony will also honor a great player with the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, and a young female player to be named as the BBC Emerging Player of the Year.
