Four Indian-American women have been racially abused and assaulted in the US state of Texas by a Mexican-American woman who hurled racist slurs at her that she was “ruining” America and that she should “go back to India”.

The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, August 24, 2022, in a parking lot in Dallas, Texas. The woman, who has now been arrested, is seen in the video identifying herself as Mexican-American and attacking a group of Indian-Americans.

The video shows Upton using racial slurs, and at one point physically assaulted at least two women.

The mother is seen protesting the arguments made by the Mexican-American woman and requesting not to use racial slurs. At one point, a Mexican-American woman, who she says was born in the United States, is also seen assaulting her mother and her other friends.

Plano police detectives arrested Esmeralda Upton of Plano on Thursday afternoon. He has been charged with assault, bodily injury and terroristic intimidation and is being held on bond amounts totaling $10,000.

Groups in North Texas with links to the South Asian American community condemned the attack and said they were relieved that a suspect had been arrested.

India Association of North Texas President Urmeet Juneja said that he feels that North Texas has largely been a welcoming and safe place for people of South Asian descent, Dallas Morning News informed of.
