Rahul stresses Karnataka’s allegation and Congress

Bangalore/New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday sought his party’s leaders and nominations for a “brilliant and people-oriented” campaign on the state’s attachment controversy after polling for the Karnataka assembly elections. He tweeted, “I enjoy the ‘Babbar Sher’ Karta and leaders of the Congress for another brilliant public-facing campaign.” Thanks to the people of Karnataka for coming out in such large numbers for a progressive future.

Voting for all 224 constituencies in the Karnataka Assembly ended at 6 pm on Wednesday and around 65.69 percent exercised their franchise by 5 pm.

The Congress has promised to implement five ‘guarantees’ if the party is voted to power in the state. These include the scheme of providing 200 units of free electricity to all households (Griha Status), monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to the female head of each household (Griha Lakshmi), the scheme of providing 10 kg of rice free of cost to each member of a BPL household (Anna Bhagya ) planning etc.

Karnataka is believed to be a triangular contest between the embattled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and former Prime Minister D Deve Gowda’s Janata Dal (Sekerian). At the same time, Congress has been projected to emerge as the single largest party in the post-polls (exit polls) after most of the voting for the Karnataka assembly elections on Wednesday.

According to the ‘India Today-Axis Moy India’ exit poll, the Congress may get 122 to 140 seats in the 224-member assembly with 43 per cent votes and the BJP 62 to 80 seats with 35 per cent votes. The Janata Dal (Seklian) party is projected to get 20 to 25 seats with 16 percent of the vote.

The News 24-Today’s Chanakya survey has predicted 120 seats for the Congress, 92 for the BJP and 12 for the JD(S).
