Railway employees have played a vital role in the performance of passenger and freight services, which has also acted as a catalyst for the economy. In fact, the railway employees ensured uninterrupted movement of essential commodities like food, manure, coal and other items even during the lockdown period. The ministry statement said that the railways has ensured that there is no shortage of such items in the area of operation.
The Railways said that in the last three years, it has taken several steps to gain market share in freight traffic and enhance recovery in passenger fares through appropriate policy initiatives. As a result, in the current year (2022-23), Railways has gained momentum in receipts, which were earlier disrupted due to the pandemic.
In FY 2021-22, Railways achieved an incremental freight movement of 184 million tonnes which is the highest ever.
The payment of PLB would act as an incentive and would result in a large number of Railway employees, especially those involved in the execution and operation of the Railways, to improve their productivity and ensure safety, speed and service to the Railway customers. Will inspire. Payment of PLB will also boost demand in the economy in the coming festive season.
The financial impact of payment of 78 days PLB to railway employees is estimated to be Rs 1,832.09 crore. The salary calculation limit prescribed for payment of PLB is Rs 7,000 per month. The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs 17,951 for 78 days.
