For the first time, Railways will take advantage of ‘Google Maps’ to ensure that almost all candidates are allotted an examination center within 300 kms of their home for the upcoming examination to be held on July 30. The decision comes after several candidates expressed concern. Railway is deciding the center for RRB-NTPC exam far away from its location.

In the upcoming exam around 60,000 candidates will take the computer based test for 7,026 posts at the allotted centre. In all, there are 90 centers across India.

“In the previous examinations, the allotted centers could have been up to 1,000 km. This time, we aim to allot a center to 99% of the candidates which is within 300 km from their home. Long distance was a big issue especially for handicapped and women candidates,” said a railway official. Hindu,

The official said that the railways is tapping on Google Maps to match the location (pincode) of the candidates with the location (pincode) of the exam centre. The distance shown for train routes on the map, followed by road distance, will take precedence.

“It is not possible to accommodate all the candidates within 300 kms, for example in North East India… but it will be so for 99% of the candidates. The focus is on allotting the center within the candidate’s state or adjoining state with good connectivity of the home state,” the official said, adding that all female candidates appearing for the exam within 400 kms of their location Exam centers have been allotted.

The allotment of centers far away from their homes has been an issue for a long time for candidates who have raised it several times, including on social media platforms.
