Rain Alert! UP closed schools for all students up to class XII after IMD’s warning of heavy rain on Monday

The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday ordered the closure of all schools up to class XII in several districts due to the ‘heavy rain’ warning issued on October 10 (Monday). Schools will remain closed in cities including Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Kanpur and Agra in view of the incessant rains for the past few days. IMD officials have issued a forecast of more rain across the state in the next 24 hours.

Holiday has been declared in all schools in many districts including Lucknow, Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Meerut, Aligarh, Mathura, Kanpur, Etah, Mainpuri and Firozabad. All classes in schools of educational boards in these districts will remain closed.

Schools in Aligarh have been closed till October 12. Heavy rains lashed many parts of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday and more rains are likely on Monday.

Heavy rain killed 5 people

Heavy rains lashed several parts of the state, in which at least five people lost their lives and life was disrupted. According to the IMD, the state recorded an average of 22.5 mm of rain on Sunday, which is 2,396 per cent more than the day’s ‘long period average’. Since October 1, the state has recorded 92.3 mm of rain which is 500 per cent more than the LPA of 14.4 mm.

Two people died when a boat capsized in Rapti river in Gorakhpur. A 90-year-old woman was killed when a house collapsed due to rain in Ghaziabad, police said.

A 14-year-old boy was killed and several others injured in three incidents of house collapse due to heavy rains in Bulandshahr. At least six others were injured in similar incidents from Dibai and Usadpur areas of the district.

Two teenagers were washed away in flood waters in Balrampur. According to officials, the body of one boy has been recovered while a search is on for the other.

Traffic was affected due to flood waters on Balrampur-Badri National Highway 730. According to district officials, several thousand hectares of standing crops in villages under Balrampur tehsil have been washed away by rain water.

Rajasthan State Road Transport bus carrying passengers got stuck on railway underpass in Mathura. The fire brigade came to rescue the passengers.
