Rain in Vellore, adjoining districts gave relief from heat

Many parts of Vellore and adjoining towns like Ambur, Vaniyambadi, Arni, Gudiyatham, Tiruvannamalai, Chengam, Polur and Tirupattur received rain in the evening for the past few days.

Rain in major cities of Vellore, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts has brought relief to residents from the rising temperatures. There was mild weather in these districts on Sunday.

Low-lying areas like Sampath Nagar and Kansalpet in Vellore, which get submerged every monsoon, received light rain for a few hours. “The rain has turned down the heat in the town of the fort. On-going civic projects should be completed before the northeast monsoon to prevent any untoward incident,” said S Velapandi, a resident.

Among the four districts, Ranipet received the highest rainfall of 199.30 mm, Tiruvannamalai 93.40 mm till 6 am on Sunday. Among major cities, Sholinghur in Ranipet district received the highest rainfall of 92 mm, followed by Thandarampattu in Tiruvannamalai at 39.40 mm.

Wallajah at 38.70 mm, Arakkonam, 24.60, Arcot, 14.80 mm, Tiruvannamalai at Vembakkam, 12 mm, Chengam, 11.40 mm, and Chair, 8 mm, and Vaniyambadi, 3 mm in Tirupattur. Vellore, Gudiyatham, Katpadi and Anaikut received incessant rains over the past few days, mostly at night.

The district administration has warned residents, mostly children, not to venture into the water bodies due to incessant rains in its catchment areas.
