Raj Kundra ‘Main Facilitator’ in Porn Film Case, Earned Lakhs: Mumbai Police Chargesheet

Businessman Raj Kundra was the “key facilitator” in a pornographic material case and he, along with other accused, filmed struggling young women in the film industry in an obscene manner, Mumbai police claimed in a supplementary chargesheet filed in a court. On Wednesday, about 1500 pages of chargesheet against Kundra’s husband, 46-year-old Kundra Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty, and his accomplice Ryan Thorpe were filed in a magistrates court by the Crime Branch.

The case against Kundra, who was arrested in July, is related to allegedly making obscene films and publishing them through certain apps.

Two others, Yash Thakur, a resident of Singapore and Pradeep Bakshi of London, have been shown as wanted accused in the chargesheet.

The Crime Branch had filed the first chargesheet in the case against nine persons in April this year.

In a heavily documented case, the police have said investigations conducted by the Crime Branch’s property cell revealed that Kundra was the “main facilitator” in the pornographic films case.

It said technical analysis, statements of witnesses and documents seized from his office brought forth several evidences against Kundra.

Police said Kundra and Thorpe in conspiracy with the earlier arrested accused took advantage of financially weak girls who were struggling in the film industry and made obscene films with them.

He said the obscene videos were uploaded on various websites as well as mobile applications.

The chargesheet states that these videos were sold through subscriptions and that Kundra “illegally” earned lakhs from them.

It said the victims were duped – they were either given nominal compensation or at times nothing.

Police alleged that Kundra and his associate Thorpe also destroyed WhatsApp chats and e-mails from their mobile phones and laptops, which contained important evidence in the case.

They have been booked under IPC sections relating to sexual harassment and cheating, as well as provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Kundra and Thorpe were arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch on July 19 and are currently in jail in judicial custody. Their bail applications are pending in the Mumbai sessions court.
