Rajasthan Budget 2023: CM Ashok Gehlot read excerpts from the old budget, opposition created ruckus

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot made a big mistake on Friday by reading out some parts of the previous budget instead of the budget 2023-24. Due to this misunderstanding, the opposition created ruckus in the house and they came to the Well. Though Speaker CP Joshi asked them to maintain order, the opposition continued with its protest, due to which the House was adjourned for half an hour.

After the proceedings were adjourned, the BJP MLAs sat on a dharna inside the Well of the House.

Several BJP leaders shared the video of Ashok Gehlot’s ‘blunder’ in the House. BJP IT cell national head Amit Malviya took to Twitter to criticize the Gehlot government and said, “Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, who also holds the finance portfolio, starts reading an old one while presenting this year’s budget . The Chief Whip did intervene and stop it. Shameful as it may be, it also shows how callous and poorly invested the Congress is in matters of governance…”

On the other hand, former Rajasthan CM and BJP leader Vasundhara Raje said, ‘CM kept reading the old budget for 8 minutes. When I was the CM, I used to check and read again and again before presenting the budget. You can imagine how safe the state is in the hands of a chief minister who reads out old budgets.”

This budget is significant for the Ashok Gehlot government as it is the last budget before the state goes to the assembly elections later this year.

For the first time, the budget will be shown live in all government and private colleges of the state. Gehlot, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the budget on the theme of ‘Bachat, Rahat, Badhaat’ (savings, relief and progress).

He finalized the budget along with his team of officers at the Chief Minister’s Office on Thursday.

In a tweet on Thursday, Gehlot said, “Rajasthan’s budget will bring savings, relief and progress. Budget 2023 finalized with a resolve to ensure #Bachat_Relief_Badhaat of every person of the state.”

Gehlot has said on several occasions that the upcoming budget will focus on youth and women and fulfill the aspirations of the people of the state.

Meanwhile, the College Education Commissionerate issued an order on Wednesday directing all government and private colleges in the state to show the budget live.

Colleges have been asked to make arrangements for live telecast of the budget speech in the auditorium/meeting hall so that more and more students, teachers and heads of institutions can watch it.
