Jaipur/Jodhpur:

In an apparently emerging trend defying the justice-delayed-justice-denial syndrome, another Rajasthan court sentenced a child rapist and murderer to death on Friday, a month after the commission of the crime.

A special POCSO court in Merta town of Nagaur district on September 20 this year awarded death sentence to a 25-year-old man for raping and killing a seven-year-old girl in a village under Padukalan police station area. in the district.

Special Public Prosecutor Sumer Singh said Special Judge Rekha Rathore sentenced the victim’s maternal uncle Dinesh Jat after 11 days of continuous hearing, terming her offense as “rare to rare”.

Earlier on October 5, a Jaipur court sentenced a 25-year-old man to 20 years in prison for raping a 9-year-old girl, within nine days of the commission of the offence.

Setting a benchmark on the speed of delivery of the judgment, experts say, which also adds to the deterrent value of the sentence, the special Jaipur POCSO court had decided the case within five working days of the filing of the charge sheet by the police. Barely 18 hours.

SPP Singh said Additional Sessions Judge Rathore conducted continuous hearing after Nagaur police completed the investigation of the case in barely six days and filed the charge sheet on September 27.

He said that during the trial the ASJ examined 29 prosecution witnesses, while the defense was able to present only one witness in defense of the accused Jat.

However, the court rejected the statement of the defense witness, alleging that the accused Jat was mentally handicapped, as it found the accused to be completely mentally sound, Mr Singh said.

According to the prosecution, the girl’s maternal uncle had lured her to a field on September 20, where he raped her and killed her fearing that she might disclose the incident to other family members. and threw his body behind the bushes.

On the complaint of the girl’s mother, the police recovered the victim’s body and arrested Dinesh Jat the same day.

Speeding up the investigation of the case, the police filed a charge sheet in the POCSO court in just six days.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also welcomed the court’s swift decision and speedy police investigation into the matter.
