Rajasthan Royals sign Evin Lewis, Oshane Thomas as replacement players

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday announced the final set of their replacement players. West Indies pair of Evin Lewis and Oshane Thomas will join the Royals squad for the remaining players of IPL 2021 to be held in UAE from 19 September. Trinidad and Tobago left-handed opener Evin Lewis replaced Jos Buttler. The 29-year-old Lewis made his West Indies debut during their 2016 World T20 campaign in India, and has 1318 runs to his name in 45 T20Is at a strike rate of 158.

The flamboyant batsman has scored 1847 runs in 57 ODIs for West Indies. His stellar performances for the national side led him to be picked by Mumbai Indians in 2018, for which he scored 430 runs in 16 matches in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Jamaican right-arm pacer, Oshane Thomas, who is currently playing for Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League, will join the Royals’ set-up as a replacement for Ben Stokes.

24-year-old Oshane Thomas made his international debut in 2018, having faced India in bilateral ODI and T20I series.

Since then, Thomas, the recipient of West Indies’ Emerging Player of the Year award in 2019, has taken 27 wickets in 20 ODIs and 19 wickets in 17 T20Is. In the IPL, the pacer represented the Royals in 2019, taking five wickets in four matches, and was also with the franchise during the 2020 season in the UAE.
