BJP nominates union ministers today Sarbananda Sonowal According to a party statement, L Murugan has been made the candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-elections in Assam and Madhya Pradesh.
Both Sarbananda Sonowal and L Murugan were recently inducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi into his Council of Ministers, necessitating their election to Parliament in six months.
His election to the Rajya Sabha is certain, as the BJP has a majority in both the state assemblies.
In Assam, a Rajya Sabha seat fell vacant after Biswajit Daimary resigned to become the Speaker of the Assembly.
In Madhya Pradesh, the vacancy emerged after the then Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot resigned following his appointment as the Governor of Karnataka.
