Ramadan 2022: What to eat and what not to eat during Sehri and Iftar to stay healthy

The holy month of Ramadan began earlier this week. In this month, the followers of Islam fast for the whole day without a drop of water. The two main meals during the month, iftar in the evening and sehri in the morning should accordingly be healthy and nutritious so that you have the required level of strength to fast for the whole day and at the same time not get dehydrated.

While fasting is a necessary part of worship in the month, lack of awareness about proper food and drink can prove to be detrimental to one’s health. However, in a conversation with News18, health experts have given some such tips to people, so that they can avoid falling ill.

General Physician Dr. Faheem Baig says that the month of Ramadan is of worship, but apart from this, from a scientific point of view, this month has a lot of importance. By fasting throughout this month, the body gets detoxified. That is, by adopting this right process of eating and drinking, the toxic substances come out from the body and it remains healthy throughout the year.

What to eat during Sehri

Dr Baig says that during Sehri, eat simple food early in the morning. Do not eat heavy food at all. After sehri, walk for a while and then take rest for some time and then go on with your daily work. Some people keep awake till Sehri but Dr. Baig denies it. It is necessary to fall asleep only after the prayer of Taraweeh and then to wake up in Sehri because if you are fasting then it is very important to take 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Keep ghee and spices less and you can eat plain lentils. Eat roti-vegetables and salad in the morning. Drink at least three to four liters of water during Sehri and take some rest after the afternoon prayers.

what to eat for roza iftar

Iftar should also be kept simple and doctors recommend traditional drinks like shikanji, coconut water, sattu tukhmalanga. After this, dates or some dry fruits can be taken. It also compensates for the lack of water throughout the day and keeps the body hydrated. After this you can have fruit chaat, and add lemon and some spices to it. Keep the spices mild, otherwise acidity may occur. One hour after Iftar, food should be eaten before Taraweeh. Take roti, vegetables etc in it. Chicken etc. can be taken once in two-three days. You can also have dal and rice. Consumption of green vegetables is very important.

Avoid the following foods

Avoid dumplings, samosas, korma, biryani, sweets, namkeen, soft drinks and Red Bull. Also, don’t go for chicken fry, kebabs, dahi bada or aloo chaat.
