Ramayana, Mahabharata, Ram Setu will be taught to engineering students in MP colleges

After plans to include life lessons of RSS founder KB Hedgewar and Jan Sangh founder Deendayal Upadhyay in MBBS curriculum already surfaced, the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh has now decided to include lessons on the Ramayana, Mahabharata as well as lessons on the mythical bridge Ram Setu. Incorporation plans have been announced. Lord Rama used to reach Lanka in the engineering courses of the state.

There is nothing wrong in this, state Higher Education Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said on Monday, adding that anyone who wants to know about the character of Lord Ram and his contribution to the era can learn it. He said that we are also planning to include Urdu in the curriculum through Ghazals.

Ramcharitmanas in BA course

The BJP government has also decided to teach lessons on Ramcharitmanas and Mahabharata to students in higher education. The curriculum ‘Vyavarik Darshan of Ramcharit Manas’ has been prepared by the Higher Education Department. It will be a question paper of 100 marks and BA students opting for Applied Philosophy will study it. However, the subject will be optional.

The objective of the course is to develop traits like personality development, leadership skills and humanistic attitude in the students apart from understanding the values required in today’s world. The curriculum also plans to make students motivational speakers for stress management and personality development.

Commenting on the course material, Dr Yadav told News18 that the syllabus has been recommended by the Board of Studies under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The board has included the Ramcharitmanas in the form of 100 marks question paper.

Dr Yadav questioned that if Ramcharitmanas is not included in the curriculum in India, will it be taught in Pakistan or Afghanistan. “We are very proud that Lord Rama was born in our land. Mahatma Gandhi also died while chanting Ram Ram, so Ram is pervasive in our culture. If we include life lessons of Lord Rama as an optional subject, then what is wrong in that.”

The new syllabus also includes 24 other optional subjects including Urdu language and its literature, which can be opted by the interested students. The Higher Education Department is planning to include these courses from the new academic session.

Why Quran, not Bible, asks Congress

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress is not impressed with the move as Bhopal Central MLA Arif Masood demanded that if Ramcharitmanas and Mahabharata are taught in colleges, then lessons on Quran, Bible and Guru Granth Sahib should also be included in the syllabus. The department is also claiming that the subjects are based only on Indian culture and philosophy.

There is also some historical course material for engineering students. With the help of Ram Setu, students will be taught about the engineering skills of the era that belonged to Lord Rama. Congress spokesperson Narendra Saluja said that engineering students need details of cutting edge technology to hone their skills and religion is a completely different thing, BJP is trying to mislead the public by mixing religion in technical and higher education. Still working. “Religion may be a separate subject but should not be mixed with technical knowledge,” Saluja said.

On Congress’s demand to include Quran in the syllabus, Yadav said the opposition party is planning to compare everything with Lord Ram. He is the cornerstone of our rich culture who acted as an ideal student, warrior and husband.

When asked why Bible and others were not included in the syllabus, the minister said that we have included what the board has suggested.

We will also teach freedom fighters and historical personalities like Rani Avantibai, Rani Ahilyabai, Tantya Bhil, Chandrashekhar Azad, Raja Bhoj and others. He said that even NASA has recognized Ram Setu and Bet Dwarka as man-made structures, so these things should now be a matter of pride.

Dr Yadav said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has demanded the degree with the aim of holistic development of the students.

Jabalpur University includes rituals, Ramcharitmanas

As the higher education department is considering the course material for the new academic session, Rani Durgavati University in Jabalpur has already included Ramcharitmanas in the syllabus. Apart from this, the Sanskrit department has also prepared a course on Karmakanda (religious rituals) in the university. University Vice Chancellor Prof Kapil Dev Mishra said that Sanskrit is the most scientific language in the world and the most preferred language for IT by the experts.

He claimed that religious rituals are scientifically based so we are trying to propagate them among the youth and also want to link it with commercial options. The department has also started a course on Garbh Sanskar (Pregnancy Rituals). When asked the reason for including Ramcharitmanas in the curriculum, the Vice-Chancellor said that Ramcharitmanas is not related to Hinduism, it basically talks about humanity (manav-dharma). By including this, we want to let the students and the society know about the philosophy and ideals that India is a contribution to the world.
