Manchester United players celebrate a goal against Crystal Palace FC

Ralph Rangnick began his stint as Manchester United manager in a 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace, thanks to a rare Fred goal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Brazilian midfielder aimed with his weak right foot and swung a shot into the far corner from the edge of the field in the 77th minute.

Rangnik was appointed as manager until the end of the season on Monday, but had to wait nearly a week before he could command his first game while securing his work permit.

He has already made a mark on United’s approach, deploying a 4-2-2-2 formation and putting his players under high pressure and setting up the team under Rangnik’s predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Got to play with the urgency.

However, a performance that started off strongly in the second half, only for Fred to provide interference for his second goal of the season.

Earlier, Alex Telles had clipped the crossbar with a curling free-kick and opposite full-back Diogo Dalot curled up at the end of a robbery run.

Cristiano Ronaldo started and played the full game, but didn’t have a clear chance.

Palace should have gone just ahead of Fred’s goal when the ball hit Jordan Ayu through a corner. A few meters (yards) away from the target and at an angle, Ayew fired a shot in the face of the goal. United moved up to sixth place in the standings.
