Ranji Trophy 2022: Ishant, Saini aim for outright win against Jharkhand as Delhi

The return of India pacers Ishant Sharma and Navdeep Saini will give Delhi a boost when they push for an outright win against Jharkhand in a Ranji Trophy Group H match in Guwahati on Thursday.

After giving Tamil Nadu a first innings lead in the first match drawn in Guwahati, Delhi need an outright win to stay alive in the competition.

Ishant, who has not been picked for the Sri Lanka series starting on Thursday, would be inclined to make a statement.

The lean pacer, who played 105 Tests, joined the Delhi team last week and missed the opening match due to quarantine requirements. He had not planned to play in the first league stage.

A team source said, “Both Ishant and Saini are scheduled to play tomorrow.”

Saini also joined the team late and missed the opening game.

In the batting department, all eyes will be on India U-19 captain Yash Dhull, who made his first-class debut by scoring back-to-back centuries against Tamil Nadu, becoming only the third batsman in the history of the tournament to do so.

After not playing red ball cricket for a long time, Dhull showed remarkable skill and flair after being asked to open in his very first game.

Delhi coach Raj Kumar Sharma already thinks that Dhul is ready to play for India and another solid performance will make it difficult for the selectors to ignore him for long.

Jharkhand will be under pressure after losing their first game to Chhattisgarh. The Saurabh Tiwary-led side will be aiming for a better batting performance after scoring 169 and 133 runs in the two innings against Chhattisgarh.
