Wildlife experts have captured heartwarming moments of a snow leopard family in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti Valley. The species has been called the ‘ghost of the mountains’ because of their elusive nature. It is their skin color that makes them difficult to see even in the face of icy and rocky terrain. What makes the recent spotting all the more fascinating is the fact that sighting two or more animals of this species is an extremely rare occurrence. Together. Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Parveen Kaswan shared a video of two cubs of this species before being reunited with their mother.

The mother panther can be seen lovingly caressing the cubs while the cubs enjoy her company. Sharing this heart-warming clip, the IFS officer wrote, “The ghost of the mountains. A snow leopard family captured by a good friend. They are one of the most agile hunters on earth.”

Sharing details about their species, the IFS officer explained that the creatures are adapted to high and cold altitudes. “This is a mother with two cubs. Snow leopards are best adapted to high and cold altitudes. They are known for their acrobatics which include running up steep slopes and long jumps. The video was shot last week in Lahaul-Spiti.

Kaswan also highlighted that “Snow leopards are big cats that cannot roar. Their paws are specially designed for hills and slopes. Powerful, agile, secretive and graceful.

In just one day, the clip has garnered nearly two lakh views and over four thousand likes on the micro-blogging site. Animal lovers were overjoyed to see the clip of this adorable family. One user commented, “It is a miracle of nature to survive and thrive in this cold climate.”

Another wrote, “Wow. Enjoy watching the most majestic creature.

Another joined in, “Probably the most beautiful video I’ve ever seen. Love the snow leopard.”

Meanwhile, a user said, “It’s hard to see one of these elusive animals. It’s a pleasure to see a family of three.”

According to World Wildlife, snow leopards have one to five cubs and the babies are said to be born blind. They start opening their eyes only a week after being born. Cubs depend on their mother for about a year. Snow leopards are listed as a ‘vulnerable’ species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
