Rava Handvo Recipe: How To Make This Classic Gujarati Dish

What is Handvo made of?

Traditionally, Gujarati handvo is made from rice and a mixture of urad dal, chana dal and moong dal. These ingredients are ground to a fine powder and mixed with curd for fermentation. Rava Handvo Recipe: How to make Rava Handvo:

The preparation of Rava Handvo does not require any major planning. It is a quick, healthy and delicious dish made with semolina, bottle gourd, beetroot and curd. All you have to do is prepare a batter and bake it on a tawa. The whole process does not take more than half an hour. Seems right, doesn’t it? So, without further ado, let’s go through the recipe.

Ingredients to make Rava Handvo:

To make Rava Handvo, we need semolina, grated bottle gourd, grated beetroot, curd, salt, fruit salt, oil, mustard seeds and green chillies. We like to keep it simple, but you can always add other veggies, nuts and seeds of your choice to make the dish more flavourful and colourful.

Method for making Rava Handvo:

Mix grated bottle gourd and beetroot with semolina and curd and keep it for at least 15 minutes. If necessary, add little water to adjust the consistency. At this point add salt and fruit salt and give a final mix.

Heat a pan and add mustard seeds and green chillies to it. Pour batter into it and close the lid. Keep it on low flame and cook till it turns crispy brown from one side. Once done, flip and cook on the other side. Do not turn it when it is halfway, otherwise the handvo will break.
