Several country-made bombs were hurled at a BJP rally in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district on Sunday, causing panic among the people. Police said the incident took place at Seetalkuchi market during the BJP’s protest march against the TMC government in the state.

BJP supporters rushed to save their lives as soon as the bomb was thrown. When they regrouped after a scuffle, the police halted the march to prevent further stampede. A police official said some people suffered minor injuries from the flying splinters but no one had to be hospitalised.

The BJP alleged that TMC was behind the attack on its workers. BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh said, “The incident again proves that ‘Jungle Raj’ is going on in West Bengal and the police remains a mute spectator.”

The TMC alleged that the BJP planned the attack to attract public attention. “We were busy with Abhishek Banerjee’s public meeting at Malbazar. Why should we create trouble in Sitalkuchi?” TMC’s Dinhata MLA Udayan Guha, North Bengal Development Minister.
