Raza, Curran lead Punjab Kings to 2-wicket win over LSG in Tata IPL 2023

On April 15, Punjab Kings’ Sikandar Raza, stand-in captain Sam Curran, Matthew Short and Shah Rukh Khan led their team to a 2-wicket win against the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants in Tata IPL 2023.

KL Rahul-led LSG, playing their second IPL match at home in Lucknow, were asked to bat first by Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain Sam Curran.

Opening first for LSG, he demonstrated that it was his day and he would do whatever he can to put up an attractive score on the scoreboard. Rahul got the team off to a good start with Kyle Meyers 29(23). He scored 74 runs in 56 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six. As soon as KL Rahul went to the pavilion, apart from the opening pair, the entire team disintegrated.

However, Krunal Pandya 18(17) and Marcus Stoinis 15(11) tried to find their footing but were soon followed. By the completion of 20 overs, LSG had scored 159 runs losing 8 wickets.

After this Matthew Short 34(22) and Harpreet Singh 22(22) came to bat and controlled the innings for some time. But then Krishnappa Gowtham got his wicket in the short and lofted it straight to mid-off where Stinnis was placed.

PBKS then sent in Sikandar Raza to bat, who scored 57 off 41 balls. Though wickets kept falling from the other side, Raza kept the pace of the game going and brought up his half-century.

Meanwhile, Krunal Pandya took the wicket of set batsman Harpreet Singh for 22(22), after which captain Sam Curran also had to return to the pavilion. Jitesh Sharma follows in the footsteps of Sam Curran and walks to the pavilion. Then came Mohammad Shahrukh Khan who scored 23 runs in 10 balls and took the team to victory.
