Recruitment activity almost flat, up 3% sequentially in September: Report

According to a report, with the onset of the festive season and easing of lockdown restrictions, the recruitment activity has stabilized sequentially with a marginal increase of three per cent in September.

Job postings remained almost flat in September, with 2,753 job postings increasing by just three percent, compared to 2,673 during August, reports Jobseek.com.

Naukri JobSpeak is a monthly index that calculates and records hiring activity based on job listings on the Naukri.com website month-to-month (MOM).

The report further showed that sectors such as retail saw a 16 per cent increase in job postings and hospitality/travel increased by 15 per cent, leading to the growth of moms in September.

Hiring activity also increased in accounting/finance (13%), BPO/ITES (12%), and insurance and medical/health sectors (11%) compared to August.

New job opportunities in the technology sector hit an all-time high in September, the report said, adding that after a second wave, recruitment in the IT industry picked up in July and maintained its climb.

Sequentially, hiring activity grew 4 percent in September, indicating that the industry is on a growth trajectory that they plan to maintain.

“During the second wave of COVID-19, we saw a gradual decline in numbers in April, stabilizing at a faster pace on May 1. Since then, the overall growth during June-July has been exponential, with growth in sectors such as IT Reached all- high time.

Within metros, the report found that Kolkata (10 per cent), Delhi-NCR (7 per cent) and Pune (6 per cent) led the hiring in September as compared to August.

The report said hiring activity in other metro cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad grew by 5 per cent during the same period.

Among Tier-II cities, Ahmedabad (11 per cent) recorded the highest growth, followed by Kochi (10 per cent) and Vadodara (7 per cent).

Compared to August, hiring activity was flat in cities such as Chandigarh, Coimbatore and Jaipur.
