‘Red Notice’ movie review: The formula is right

Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot star in a heist thriller that’s fun in a scandalous way

Gosh, this movie has it all – adventure, travel, high art, good looking leads, action, a masquerade ball and a villain named…Soto Vos (really!). While Dwayne Johnson as FBI profiler John Hartley feels a bit wrong, (his shoulders are too big for that tux), Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot as art thieves Nolan Booth and The Bishop, a cinch for their roles. Huh.

Gadot, as always, looks handsome and keeps errant men firmly in their place. Reynolds has all the pop culture polluting lines that almost seem too meta for their own good, like, “Look for the box that says McGuffin” or “Go beyond the featured extras” and whistling the Raiders March. Happened. His Mention for Vin Diesel’s Audition Tape cat’s It was funny though.

The film opens with the story of Cleopatra’s eggs – nothing to do with Jewald and IVF. Marc Anthony gave three of these to the Queen of Egypt at his wedding (why can’t I get Liz Taylor and Richard Burton out of my head?) Currently, one of the eggs is in a museum in Italy, while the other of the arms in Valencia The dealer is with Soto Vos (Chris Diamantopoulos).

The third egg is lost in the sands of time. When a fond father, with more money than is understandable, offers a king’s ransom for three eggs as a wedding gift for his daughter, Cleopatra (ah), it turns out to be top art thieves, Booth and Bishop. Sends into an intercontinental race of bluffs and doubles. Interpol’s Inspector Das (Ritu Arya) is the target of thieves.

red notice Funny in a scandalous way. Masquerade ball, a bull fight, the Impossible Goal Breaking out the style and entering secure safes and glamorous spaces – even prisons look good. An auction would have completed the pretty if shallow picture, which may just be the bullet for these demanding times.
