He was speaking after inaugurating a mega job fair organized by the department at Bhandarkar College of Arts and Sciences at Kundapur in Udupi district.

The portal, Mr Narayan said, will help bring employers and job seekers on a single platform.

It will enable the job seekers to know about the opportunities, evaluate them, know about their shortcomings and improve their skills. Thus, the portal will help the employers to overcome the shortage of manpower, the minister said. The portal which is already working, has now been fixed and improved.

Shri Narayan said that the government has joined hands with enterprises to impart skill based training to the students. This is to avoid the gap between demand and supply as students coming out of educational institutions must be industry ready. The system is being suitably revamped to help the job seekers find the employment of their choice.

The Minister said that under the National Education Policy, learning in the subjects of technology including data analytics, artificial intelligence, cyber security has been made compulsory. Karnataka is the first state to partner with NASSCOM in this regard. Similarly, the government has also partnered with Infosys Spring Board where more than 5,000 add-on courses are available. He said that the government has provided more than 27,000 computer systems to government colleges through various IT companies.

Shri Narayan said that there are 1,200 ITI institutes in the state where 1.5 lakh students can do long-term courses and one lakh students can do short-term courses. The admission capacity in polytechnics in the state has been increased from 30,000 to 75,000. There are GTTCs in all 31 districts of the state. The minister said that there is no dearth of seats for any course except medical education in the state.

Social and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Kota Srinivas Pujari said that more than 2,800 online applications have been received for the job fair and it is possible to offer jobs to about 2,000 candidates by 57 participating companies. He asked the companies to issue offer letters to the candidates at the earliest.

The program was presided over by Kundapur TMC President Veena Bhaskar Mendon.
