Relatives of Chhattisgarh Minister TS Singh Deo found dead near railway track; BJP demands probe

Virbhadra Pratap Singh (42), a janpad panchayat representative, a relative of Chhattisgarh minister TS Singh Deo, was found dead near a railway track in Bilaspur district on Friday, with police suspecting that he might have accidentally fallen off the Durg-Ambikapur Express train. in which he was traveling. , Police said the body of Singh (42), vice-president of Lundra Janpad Panchayat in Surguja district, was found in the morning near the tracks between Salka and Belgahna railway stations of Kota police station area.

Singh alias Sachin Baba, a relative of state Health Minister TS Singh Deo, belonged to the Dholpur unit of the former Surguja royal family. Bilaspur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Parul Mathur said the body was spotted by railway personnel, who then informed the police.

After identifying the body, his family members were informed and a forensic team was sent to the spot for investigation, he said. Mathur said he was going from Raipur to Ambikapur by Durg-Ambikapur Express on Thursday night and prima facie it appears that he accidentally fell from the moving train and died, Mathur said, adding further investigation was on.

He said the body was handed over to his family members after the postmortem. Meanwhile, the opposition BJP claimed that Singh died under suspicious circumstances and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.

Sachin (as he was known), who was a close relative of Minister Singh Deo, was arrested last year in connection with the alleged attack on the convoy of Congress MLA Brihaspat Singh (in July 2021). Senior BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar said that in the present circumstances this does not appear to be a normal incident and it could also be a political murder. He demanded that Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel get the incident investigated by a sitting judge of the High Court.

After the alleged attack on his convoy, Brihaspat Singh claimed that he had a threat to his life from Singh Deo. The minister had walked out of the state assembly (during last year’s monsoon session) over the claims of the (Congress) MLA. Hence, there is a need for a high-level inquiry into the matter, Chandrakar said.
