She loved the color white and this was evident in her choice of clothes and jewellery.
One of India’s most popular celebrity stylists, Isha Bhansali, took a moment to recall the grace of the queen of melody, “The one thing we can draw from her style legacy is consistency and passion. Her signature looks Her signature border saris with twin braids and round bindis draped around both her shoulders. All blended very well with her soothing and melodious voice,” recalls Isha.
Isha believes that “not to mention her signature solitaires and string of pearls,” Lata ji will always be remembered for her graceful demeanor.
Designer Gautam Gupta from the label Asha Gautam also offered his condolences on the passing of the legend. “Lata Mangeshkar was a legend and it is a great loss to the nation. Her song, ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Log…’ is my all-time favorite. Apart from being great at the craft, she always carried herself with elegance and class. He has inspired many people like me to love and respect your work. He has left a legacy for many not only in singing but in every field,” says Gautam.
For all those who wonder why Mangeshkar never wore a colorful sari, in 2013 she told Bollywood Hungama, “The chorus girls laughed so hard that I vowed never to put on color again,” that Reminiscent of times when she was ridiculed for using colorful sarees
While her rich wardrobe full of white handloom sarees was always written about, very few people knew about her love for diamonds. “With my first income, I bought gold jewelery for my mother,” she told Telegraph India in 2005, “For me I found a…specially designed diamond and ruby ring with ‘LM’ on it. ‘ I still have that ring. It’s one of my most prized possessions.” According to reports, Mangeshkar had paid Rs 700 for the ring in 1947. It was his friendship with singer late KL Sehgal and his Rakhi-brother, Tamil actor/composer Sivaji Ganesan, that sparked his interest in diamonds.
