Students of Delhi University (DU) Universities have taken to Twitter with the hashtag ‘ReopenDU’ to express their disappointment over not reopening colleges. The Delhi government has given permission to reopen schools and colleges in the capital from September 1.
One of the college students shared a screengrab of a story posted on Instagram on his Twitter handle, which read, “What’s the use of graduating from a prestigious college? If my classes do not resume by the end of this year, I will deliberately fail myself and be a year behind. Can you imagine the pain of reading PDFs on a laptop?”
“… a year has passed, and that’s enough. I don’t even know what it is like being a graduate student. I am not learning anything,” she said.
Sharing the picture, other students wrote in the caption, “I don’t think anyone else can more accurately explain the condition of helpless students. What’s the point of pursuing a degree and being ignorant?”
This excerpt came up on Instagram. It was written by a college mate of mine (same year). And I don’t think anyone else can more accurately explain that helpless feeling of the students. What’s the point of studying online just to earn a degree and become clueless? #reopendu pic.twitter.com/3hgKfoaduP— Aastha Gupta (@asthagupta1211) August 25, 2021
Many students, retweeting the screenshot, raised questions on the administration and the Ministry of Education. One student said, “This is what every student feels now. I don’t know what the DU administration is planning to do.
Another wrote, “Our future is getting darker and darker day by day. Online classes are not helping us in any way.”
Never ready to reopen, just an excuse for delay, sometimes caring about the future of students, what a shameless system, schools and universities around the world are open but DU will still hold extravagant meetings https://t.co/WlFmORQ6JX— Gaurav Avtramani (@indiaawakening7) 31 August 2021
I am also facing the toughest situations in my age of 18. I’ve never faced anything like this. Every day we are crying. DU should also look at reopening the campus for Arts and Commerce streams. https://t.co/7xLmyjsIMp— Vikas Yadav (@Vikas_JNVMJ) August 29, 2021
Many students took to the streets outside the Faculty of Arts, University of Delhi, North Campus, protesting the closed doors of the college.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Friday that Educational Institutions including Class 11 and 12 Schools, colleges and coaching centers can all resume physical activities in a phased manner from 1st September following the COVID-19 protocols.
Delhi government has issued SOP to reopen the institutions. However, DU Registrar Vikas Gupta Refusal to reopen colleges from September 1. “Whenever we open, we will first open colleges for science students,” Gupta was quoted as saying by PTI.
