Gouramangi Singh is very happy with what the Reliance Foundation Development League has done in the two seasons so far to unearth young talent and nurture them for the future of Indian football.

Singh feels that development tournaments play a vital role in preparing U-21 players for the next level and give them the required playing time.

“What RFDL has done so far is commendable, not only for our (FC Goa) boys but for all the young players in the country. Game time was missing for the first players but now there is an impressive level of competition. As assistant coach of FC Goa, our focus is definitely on the league and I am happy with what the tournament has done over two seasons,” he said.

There are certain things they can do now as U-21 players but not when they are part of the senior dressing room. When someone becomes a part of the senior dressing room, the expectations are high. But here now, maybe some coaches will allow him to explore or make some mistakes. The former Manipur footballer also threw light on why the boys look forward to the tournament eagerly.

“I think the RFDL is a great platform and as a club we are looking forward to it because for a developmental team, it is one of the most important features in the calendar year. And as an assistant coach of an ISL team “Whenever I speak to the boys, they are looking forward to the matches because they know they are going to meet some of the best players in the country. This is the right way to move forward, join the senior team,” Gouramangi said.
