Rhinoceros hit by truck in Kaziranga, Raveena Tandon condemned the incident

Kaziranga (Assam) [India]October 10 (ANI): Actress Raveena Tandon has reacted strongly to the unfortunate incident of a speeding truck colliding with a rhinoceros on a highway in Kaziranga, Assam.

Taking to Twitter, Raveena condemned the incident, asking the authorities to “close the roads and highways that cut forests”.

“Why can’t we put fencing on the roads and highways which are cutting down the forests?????? Under/over pass is desperately needed!!! When will we learn and act,” she tweeted.

On Sunday, a video went viral in which the truck can be seen trying to avoid colliding with a rhinoceros by changing lanes at the last minute, but fails to do so. After being hit by a truck, the rhinoceros stands on its feet in an attempt to get off the road but then falls.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also condemned the incident. In a tweet, he informed that the rhino has survived the accident and the vehicle has been stopped and fined.

“The unicorns are our special friends; We will not allow any kind of violation in their place. The rhinoceros survived the unfortunate incident at Haldibari; The vehicle was stopped and fined,” Himanta tweeted.

He also mentioned that his government is working on an elevated corridor to avoid such accidents.

“Meanwhile, in our resolve to save the animals in Kaziranga, we are working on a special elevated corridor of 32 km,” he said.

Raveena appreciated the Chief Minister for taking prompt action against the truck driver.

“Well, action taken, hopefully there will be some solution that can be thought of and action can be taken to prevent this from happening again. @himantabiswa,” she tweeted.

Raveena has been very vocal about animal welfare. Last month, she came out in support of an elephant named Joymala, who was allegedly chained and beaten up on the floor of a government-managed temple in Tamil Nadu. (ANI)
