Road Safety World Series: Brian Lara joins West Indies Legends squad ahead of India Legends game

After winning his initial matches, India Legends will face West Indies Legends in the No. 6 match of Road Safety World Series 2022 at Green Park Stadium here on Wednesday.

West Indies Legends – who registered a comprehensive 9-wicket win over Bangladesh in their first match of the season – will be strengthened by the arrival of their captain Brian Lara. Lara, who missed the opening game due to personal reasons, reached Kanpur on Monday.

The Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends team put up a scintillating performance against South Africa Legends to register a massive 61-run victory in front of a packed stadium on Saturday. The defending champions checked all the check boxes in the previous game as their batting, bowling and fielding hit the mark.

However, the opening pair of Tendulkar and Naman Ojha failed to give India Legends a decent start in the powerplay and were dismissed early against South Africa Legends. Fans would be expecting a good innings from Master Blaster and local player Suresh Raina, who made a stellar cameo that evening.

Stuart Binny and Yusuf Pathan will look to give West Indies bowlers a run for their money with their explosive hitting skills in the death overs.

India’s bowling department looks balanced as they have a decent pace attack in the form of Irfan Pathan, Manpreet Gony and Munaf Patel, while the spin department looks equally powerful due to the presence of Pragyan Ojha and Rahul Sharma.

West Indies Legends – who are coming up with a big win over Bangladesh – will also look to repeat their performance from the opening game. Caretaker captain Dwayne Smith – who hit a match-winning half-century – along with pacer Chrismar Santoki and Darren Powell will aim for a strong performance against the hosts. Their spinners Dave Mohammad, Devendra Bishoo and Suleiman Benn are equally dangerous in this format and it will not be easy for the Indians to chase them.

In the first edition, India Legends beat West Indies Legends by 12 runs. Out of the 25 T20 matches between these two teams, India has won 17 while West Indies have won on 7 occasions. 1 game ended without result.
