road workers staged performance

The Tamil Nadu Highway Road Employees Union held a protest over a charter of demands at the Collectorate here on Tuesday.

The association demanded compassionate employment to a member of the families who died during road construction. More than 300 families were waiting for jobs on compassionate grounds. The revision should be done with an increase in the basic pay of ₹1,900 for road workers designated as unskilled workers. There were over 5,000 vacancies in the Highways Department that needed to be filled.

The demands include uniform allowance, accident compensation, increase in dearness allowance and restoration of the old pension scheme. The association also demanded that the families of Makkal Nala Paniyalargal be given jobs.
