Robot helps put out a massive fire in the factory

A robot was used to douse a massive fire that broke out at a godown in north-west Delhi’s Badli on Sunday, the Delhi Fire Service said.

DFS chief Atul Garg said no one was injured in the incident, adding, “The fire broke out in the plastic granules godown.”

Mr. Garg said that the DFS got information about the fire in Badli behind Rohini Jail at 2.18 am. “We did not know what was inside the godown and the property was sealed for the last two years. We used robots extensively to douse the fire and sprinkle water. This helped prevent our firefighters from coming in contact with the fire,” he said.

DFS shared a video which shows the robot dousing the fire while smoke billows from the building.

Officials said 36 fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was brought under control by 2.10 pm. The cooling operation is going on and eight fire tenders are working at the spot.

In May, the Delhi government inducted two remote-controlled robots into the DFS to navigate the narrow lanes leading to the fire site and carry out major firefighting tasks. The robots are said to be resistant to heat, smoke and fire. They can be operated remotely even from a distance of 300 meters.
