Indian captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Navdeep Saini have been ruled out of the second Test against Bangladesh. He suffered a thumb injury in the ODI series and is yet to recover. In a release, the BCCI confirmed Rohit’s absence from the second Test and also suggested that Sani would also be unavailable. “Rohit Sharma is under the supervision of the BCCI medical team after sustaining an injury to his left thumb during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka,” the BCCI said in a release.

Earlier on Monday, reports of Rohit’s unavailability had emerged, suggesting that the India skipper is yet to fully recover from the thumb injury that he suffered in the second ODI of the series. Although Rohit came down to bat in that match, but he himself confirmed that the injury is not looking good.

Rohit then went to Mumbai to seek expert opinion on the matter. He was subsequently ruled out of the third and final ODI of the series, while a big question mark was raised over his availability for the Tests.

After comprehensively defeating Bangladesh in the first Test, India would like to win the second Test as well and make a 2-0 clean sweep.
