Rohit Sharma recalls emotional conversation with wife after third double century

That Rohit Sharma is one of the most delightful spots in world cricket when in full flow is no secret and neither is his scoring prowess. With three double hundreds to his name in ODI cricket, it is clear that his eyes are like playing big innings once. No cricketer has scored more than one double century.

Obviously, it is a difficult task for Rohit to pick the favorite among his three double hundreds, but that is not the case with his wife Ritika.

Rohit’s wife Ritika could not contain her emotions and broke down when she reached her third double century in ODIs against Sri Lanka in Mohali in 2017. Rohit recalled his knock of 208 runs off 153 balls, saying that it was the best gift. Could have given Ritika on her wedding anniversary.

“As you can see my wife got emotional there, the day was special as it was my anniversary. Probably the best gift I could have given him while on the field, though it was quite emotional,” said Rohit during his appearance on Episode 2 of ‘Open Nets With Mayank’ with teammates Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan .

The video of Ritika crying in the stands after Rohit crossed 200 after the India vs Sri Lanka match had gone viral. Rohit on Friday opened up about that day and said that Ritika felt like she had twisted her wrist while diving for a run in the 190s.

“At first I didn’t know she was crying. When I came off the field all I asked her was why did you (Ritika) cry? That’s why she told me she felt that when I dived for my 196th run So I (Rohit) moved my hand and it was a little worrying for him, he got a little emotional because I guess,” Rohit said.

Rohit, who said he was going slow initially, scored 208 runs against Sri Lanka with 13 fours and 12 sixes. This pushed India to a massive 392/4. After this India won the match by 141 runs.

“To be honest, I was going very slow, I never thought I would reach a double hundred but once you get past 125, I think it becomes easier for you because Bowlers are under pressure. Unless you make a mistake, I don’t think you can get out,” Rohit said.
