West Indies pacer Obed McCoy on Friday credited Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga for his “superior bowling performance” in the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings at the Brabourne Stadium.

McCoy took two wickets including Moeen Ali (93 off 57) and conceded just 20 runs in his quota of four overs.

Talking about his bowling, McCoy said in the post-match presentation, “It was a better bowling performance. I had better line and length, bowled less wide and had more control over everything. Malinga played my part in the nets.” Helped, he said be consistent and don’t overthink, use your variations and be smart.

“The pitch was catching up, the new ball was coming so it was easy for the batsmen, with the old ball length was important as well as variations. I had (the cutter) as long as I had the back of my hand. I bowled two slow deliveries and it slipped due to sweat, so I just bowled more cutters. Everyone is happy, we have worked hard and we will win the next game.”

Moeen opened the innings for Chennai Super Kings at 150/6. In reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal (59 off 44) and Ravichandran Ashwin (40* off 23) helped Rajasthan Royals beat Super Kings with five wickets and two balls to spare.

Rajasthan Royals will take on Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 24 May.

With this win, Rajasthan Royals pushed Lucknow Super Giants to third place. The Super Giants are now waiting for the outcome of the match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians to know whether they will face Delhi or Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator to be played in Kolkata on May 25.
