“The land acquisition and preparation of the detailed project report will start after getting the site clearance,” he said.
After completing the process, the government will start the process of obtaining in-principle approvals and licenses for the new airport.
The airport will be set up based on the guidelines for greenfield airports issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in 2008.
He said the new airport was proposed keeping in mind the increasing movement of passengers and freight and to increase international and domestic traffic.
The existing airport has a passenger capacity of 22 million passengers per year, and will be increased to 35 million passengers per year over seven years after the current expansion work is completed.
