The rupee has hit a record low of 77.56 against the US dollar. A fall in domestic equity markets has also dragged down the Indian currency, which is down 0.8 per cent against the US dollar so far this week. A falling currency will help exporters by lowering the price of Indian goods and services for foreign consumers, but hurt importers.
