Rupee rises 8 paise to 74.79 against US dollar in early trade

On October 21, the rupee closed at 74.87 on a flat note against the US dollar.

Tracking a positive trend in domestic equities, the Indian rupee rose 8 paise to 74.79 against the US dollar in early trade on October 22.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 74.82 against the dollar, then rebounded to 74.79, registering a rise of 8 paise over the previous close.

On October 21, the rupee had closed at 74.87 on a flat note against the US dollar.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex was trading 434.43 points or 0.71% higher at 61,357.93, while the broader NSE Nifty rose 105.95 points or 0.58% to 18,284.05.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.05% to 93.72.

Foreign institutional investors were net sellers in the capital market on October 21 as they offloaded shares worth Rs 2,818.90 crore, as per exchange data.
