Russia fires 84 missiles at Ukraine, 11 killed; Knock out heat, power – Times of India

Russia Cruise missiles rained down on Ukraine’s busy cities on Monday, unleashing lightning and heat in its most widespread air strikes since the start of the war, and what the US described as a “terrible attack”.
The missiles hit busy squares, parks and tourist sites in the center of the capital Kyiv.
There has also been an explosion in Lviv. Ternopil and Zhytomyr in the western UkraineDnipro and Kremenchuk in central Ukraine, zapsorizia to the south and Kharkiv to the east. Ukrainian officials said at least 11 people were killed and several injured, with many parts of the country without electricity.
Thousands of residents rushed to bomb shelters as air raid sirens sounded throughout the day. The barrage of dozens of cruise missiles fired from air, land and sea was the largest wave of air strikes to hit locations far from the front lines, since the initial volcanoes on February 24, the first day of the war.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Russian strikes were aimed at deliberately killing people, as well as destroying Ukraine’s power grid. “They are trying to destroy us and wipe us out of the earth,” he said.
By mid-morning, of Ukraine Ministry of Defence said that Russia had fired 81 cruise missiles, and that Ukraine’s air defense had shot down 43 of them. Russia’s defense ministry said it had struck all of its target targets.
Ukraine’s General Staff said 84 cruise missiles and 24 drones were used. Ukrainian military shot down 56 air bases.
