Russian-established official dies in Ukraine’s Kherson: Report

Stremusov was one of the most prominent public faces of the Russian occupation of Ukraine.

Moscow:

Russian-established deputy head of Ukraine’s southern Kherson region Kirill Stremosov died in a car accident on Wednesday, Russian state news agencies reported.

Stremusov was one of the most prominent public faces of the Russian occupation of Ukraine, using social media to make offensive statements, the latest of which surfaced on Wednesday morning.

The TASS news agency said his death was confirmed by the press service for the head of the region. The exact circumstances were unclear.

Russia last month moved to annex Ukraine’s southern Kherson region and three others in what it called a referendum, which was dismissed as illegal by Kyiv and the West.

Stremusov regularly posted video updates on social media – including in speeding vehicles – about the situation on the front lines.

Most recently he was urging civilians to evacuate the west bank of the Dniepro River in the face of mounting Ukrainian counter-offensive to retake territory occupied by Russian forces in the first days of the war.
