Russian national’s remains recovered from inside the tiger shark

The remains of Vladimir Popov, a Russian national, who was mauled to death by a shark in Egypt, were recovered from inside the predator’s belly after it was killed by local beachgoers.

A report by Al Arabiya said after dissecting the shark, specialists confirmed that the animal was the one that ate Vladimir Popov as they found his remains in its intestines.

The Al Arabiya report claimed that Popov’s remains, including his head and hand, were found inside the shark.

Last week, a 23-year-old Russian man was killed after being mauled by a tiger shark off Egypt’s Red Sea resorts near the city of Hurghada.

After the attack, the Egyptian authorities closed a 74-kilometre (46-mile) stretch of the coastline until Sunday.

Popov had went for swimming but he was suddenly pulled down by the shark into the water.

A minute-long video surfaced on internet showed that the man being suddenly pulled down into the water. He screamed “papa” and cried out loudly as the shark repeatedly circled and came back in to attack. Later in the video a witness is heard saying “it is eating his remains now” as a small ship sails in the distance.

Egypt’s environment ministry said it had caught the shark and was examining it in a laboratory to try to determine the reasons for the rare attack.

Tiger sharks are a large species that resides in tropical and temperate waters and are among the sharks most cited by the International Shark Attack File for unprovoked attacks on humans.

Shark attacks are rare in the Red Sea coastal regions.
