Babar Azam-led Pakistan defeated Virat Kohli’s Team India by 10 wickets in their Super 12 opener at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai on Sunday (October 24). After the emphatic defeat, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is receiving hate online on social media as some sections of Indian fans attacked the senior legend for his patriotism and lack of commitment towards the country. The mob carrying out the online attack reflects the Islamophobic hatred many fans come up with whenever India loses to arch-rivals Pakistan in the game of cricket. Legendary cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has come out in support of Shami as he took to Twitter to post his post on the matter. Sachin wrote, “When we support #TeamIndia, we support everyone who represents Team India. @MdShami11 is a committed, world class bowler. He has a holiday like any other player. It was day. I stand behind Shami and Team India.” in his tweet. Virender Sehwag also came in support of Shami.
