Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has revealed he will do ‘what the Senegalese people want’, amid speculation the star could leave Anfield with just one year remaining on his current contract.

Mane, who has been linked with German champions Bayern Munich, previously said he would announce a decision after last weekend’s Champions League final against Real Madrid, which Liverpool lost 1-0.

Speaking ahead of Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin on Saturday, the 30-year-old told reporters he had seen an online poll that showed most of his compatriots were in favor of a summer move. “Like everyone else, I’m on social media and I see the comments,” Mane said.

“Isn’t it between 60-70% of Senegalese who want me to leave Liverpool? I’ll do what they want. We’ll see soon. Don’t rush because we’ll see it together. The future will tell us.”

Mane signed for Liverpool from Southampton in 2016 and has been an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side, which won the 2018–19 Champions League and the league title the following season. He helped Liverpool to the League Cup and FA Cup doubles last season, contributing 23 goals in all competitions.

Klopp last month refused to discuss Mane’s future, saying he would be successful wherever he plays. Klopp was asked about Mane’s future at a Champions League news conference.

“This is the wrong moment to speak about Sadio – wherever he plays next season, he will definitely be a big player,” he said.
