Salary of IAS, IPS officers: Know about perks and facilities civil servants get

Cracking the exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service is a tough task. Every year, lakhs of candidates appear for UPSC examinations, which have only the most talented candidates. Many candidates get lucky in their first attempt, while others take multiple attempts to crack the exam. The success rate is less than 0.1 percent.

Once a person clears the UPSC exam and becomes an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) or the Indian Police Service (IPS), there is no turning back. An officer undergoes a period of probation after being confirmed for duty. According to the reports, the IAS officer gets more than one lakh rupees per month in the total salary. The salary of an IAS officer of the rank of Cabinet Secretary is around Rs 2.5 lakh per month.

The basic salary of an IPS officer is around Rs 56,000 per month, and it increases with rank. Each IPS officer is given a house and a car according to their seniority.

Different pay bands have been fixed for IAS and IPS officers. These include junior scale, senior scale and super time scale. They get Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Medical Allowance and Conveyance Allowance in addition to Basic Pay and Grade Pay.

They are provided with a range of facilities depending on their pay band including a house, a cook and other employees. IAS and IPS officers are also given a car and a driver.
