The SP president has asked all party candidates and top office-bearers of district units to collect evidence of names that were “wrongly cropped in the voters’ list”.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has started the process of gathering evidence regarding alleged deletion of voters’ names in the recent assembly elections.

Election commission India (ECI) has asked the SP President Akhilesh Yadav “Submit documentary evidence” to substantiate his allegation of deletion of voter names in the 2022 UP assembly elections.

The SP president has now asked all party candidates (winners and losers) and top office-bearers of district units to collect evidence of names that were “wrongly cropped in the voters’ list”.

He has been directed to compile photocopies of complaints made to the Returning Officers in time.

The party has set November 3 as the deadline for candidates to submit documents at the party headquarters so that they can be sent to the Election Commission in time.

A letter to this effect has been sent to all on behalf of SP State President Naresh Uttam Patel.

Patel’s letter also asked voters to take affidavits whose names were wrongly omitted from the electoral rolls.

Significantly, on October 27, the Election Commission had asked Akhilesh Yadav to produce evidence to support his allegations by November 10.

Akhilesh hit back at the poll panel on October 28, saying, “Had the Election Commission itself followed the rules related to voter list in the 2022 UP assembly elections, thousands of voters would not have been deprived of their votes.”

Last month, the SP chief had alleged that the names of 20,000 voters of Yadav and Muslim communities were dropped from almost all 403 assembly constituencies ahead of the state elections in February-March.
