Samsung may jump ship next year for its Galaxy S23 lineup and start using MediaTek chipsets for its smartphones, according to a new media report. The company has mostly been associated with Qualcomm and Exynos chipset variants over the years, but joining MediaTek and its Dimension hardware could be a big development for both companies.
If the report has a strong base of truth, then we could have the next Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphone powered by one of the premium MediaTek SoCs. The source cited in the report is quick to mention that Samsung will not completely take on MediaTek for requiring its chipsets.

In fact, as of now, Samsung will be offering MediaTek-powered devices in select markets, mostly in Asia. The report does not say what MediaTek hardware the South Korean company will use for its products, but the first phone to see the change could be the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 FE model, which may launch sometime this year.
Either way, a Samsung phone with a MediaTek chipset is a big step forward, which suggests that Qualcomm has a lot to worry about. The Taiwanese chipmaker has grown into a brand in the market, and its Dimensity 5G chipset has played a big role in changing the manufacturer’s approach.

And its overall performance has helped the Dimensity lineup to become the preferred choice for most phone makers in the mid-range segment. MediaTek is also working on the high-end Dimension 8000 and 9000 series chips which are going to make their mark in the market in the coming months.

If Samsung goes with MediaTek for its Galaxy S series phones next year, the latter could see a huge increase in demand from other brands as the vote of confidence for its quality and value comes.
