Samsung is likely to go with Snapdragon flagship chipset for the Galaxy S23 series

The Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup is going to be powered by the new Snapdragon flagship chipset. Qualcomm has apparently confirmed that the South Korean brand may be looking to use its chipset for the flagship lineup next year. Qualcomm mentioned details of its arrangement with Samsung, with 75 percent of Galaxy S22 phones having a Snapdragon chip under the hood.

And as per the latest estimate, the share is likely to increase with the Galaxy S23. The change also means that Samsung is taking second thoughts about its strategy with Exynos chips for high-end devices.

While the company is apparently in no mood to postpone the Exynos lineup, reports suggest that Samsung may use Exynos chips for other devices, such as wearables.

It is also mentioned that Samsung may use the Snapdragon SoC as a stop-gap until it works on a new chip for smartphones. While there is no official word on such development, Samsung may be leaning towards a new strategy for its chips, especially for smartphones.

The company had a major chunk of its Galaxy S8 phones powered by the Snapdragon 22 Gen 1 chipset, and it also brought the same variant to the Indian market, which has got the Exynos version most of the years.

Samsung sold the Exynos variant in select countries, but judging by the figures highlighted by Qualcomm, it seems that the proportion of Galaxy S22 phones running the Exynos chip was quite low.

Meanwhile, Samsung is gearing up for the launch of foldable devices with the Unpacked event to be held next month.

The new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are likely to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen+ 1 chipset. Qualcomm will announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip later this year, which puts it just in time for the Galaxy S23 launch early next year.
