Sangrur Police busts interstate illegal arms supply racket in Punjab; held two

Following a rise in incidents of illegal arms supply in Sangrur district and adjoining areas, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted.

Sangrur district police on Saturday claimed to have busted an inter-state illegal arms supply racket with the arrest of two persons.

Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Swapan Sharma said that two country-made arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.

Both have been identified as Pawan Kumar, a resident of Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh and Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Muktsar district.

The SSP said that following a rise in incidents of illegal arms supply in Sangrur district and adjoining areas, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the chairmanship of Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogesh Kumar. He said that the SIT has been successful in busting this inter-state racket during the rigorous investigation of one month.

He said that Pawan Kumar has allegedly supplied several weapons in Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts. The Sangrur SSP said that he was acting at the behest of a person, who hails from Aligarh district and has served in the army.

Apparently, the man was in touch with an illegal arms manufacturer from Madhya Pradesh and has several channels, who are traveling to deliver country-made weapons to anti-social elements in the state, the SSP was quoted as saying in an official release. Here.

He said that the investigation of previous cases also points to Madhya Pradesh as the point of origin of these indigenous weapons.

Meanwhile, five country-made pistols have been arrested and five country-made pistols have been recovered while busting an inter-state gang involved in illegal arms trade as part of a special operation conducted by the district Rupnagar police, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rupnagar Vivek Sheel Soni said. .

He said that acting on a tip-off, teams of Rupnagar police conducted raids and arrested five persons involved in illegal smuggling of arms from other states with arms.

The accused said that during interrogation they had bought weapons from Balwari, Madhya Pradesh at Rs 20,000 per pistol and had already sold around 25 such weapons.
