Saudi Arabia reports first Omicron case to arrive from North Africa – SPA – Times of India

Cairo: Saudi Arabia confirmed its first case of the Omicron Covid-19 variant coming from the North African country, state news agency SPA reported on Wednesday.
The SPA quoted a statement from the state health ministry as saying that the authorities have isolated the person and those who came in contact with him.
This is the first Omron variant case reported in Middle East and North Africa. The ministry said the man was a Saudi national who had traveled from the North African country without giving further details.
NS World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Monday that the heavily mutated Omicron coronavirus variant has the potential to spread internationally and poses a high risk of transmission of infections that “serious consequences” in some places.
The Saudi ministry urged people to complete their vaccinations and ordered travelers to respect self-isolation and testing rules.

Japan joined Israel and Morocco on Monday in saying it would completely close its borders.
